Stage 3 restrictions of once every other week watering with sprinklers will continue through April 30, 2014. Watering with sprinklers from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. will be prohibited beginning April 1, 2014. The City of Plano is requiring all residential and business customers to implement these outdoor water restrictions in hopes of reducing water use by at least 10 percent and increasing awareness of ongoing water conservation efforts. During Stage 3, requests for variances for landscaping will not be granted. Existing variances for new landscaping expired June 30, 2013.
Water restrictions are expected to continue through 2014 due to low lake levels and below average rainfall. The Texoma supply has not been accessible since 2009 due to the infestation of invasive zebra mussels. The North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) is accelerating a pipeline extension that will transport the Lake Texoma supply directly from the Texoma reservoir to the Wylie water treatment plant thereby protecting the environment.
